- Where are you located?
Our storefront is at 1 N. Lombardy St in the Fan neighborhood of Richmond, VA. We are in the basement of the building at the corner of Main St. and Lombardy St. Our entrance is on the Lombardy St side of the building. There are stairs required to reach the basement.
- How do I sell you books and records? What kind of books and records do you buy?
You can bring books and records to sell Wednesday-Sunday from 12-4 for cash or store credit. No appointment necessary! For larger collections, you may be asked to drop it off and come back later. We also buy cassette tapes and zines. We do occasionally buy CDs, but our selection is very small, so we buy only sparingly.
House calls are available for big collections. Get in touch with us to schedule a time.
Below we have listed some guidelines for the kinds of books and records we are usually looking for. Our space is limited, so we won't always be able to take every item that fits these categories, depending on what we already have in stock and what has sold well recently. In general, though, we want:
Books:
- Fiction, especially by LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors
- Books about music
- Graphic novels
- Occult, witchcraft, and herbalism
- Obscure, eccentric, and working class/radical history
- Anarchism and leftist theory
- Philosophy
- Horror, sci-fi, and fantasy
- Art and architecture
- Gardening and DIY
- Intersectional feminism, queer & trans topics
- Disability/neurodiversity/body positivity
- Science, nature, and ecology
- Poetry
Records:
- Recent releases
- Rock
- Soul/Funk/Disco
- Hip Hop
- Blues
- Jazz
- Electronic/Experimental
- Punk/Garage/Hardcore
- Metal/Screamo
- International/non-English-language music in all genres
We do not want:
- Anything in rough condition! No scratched or warped records, no books with cracked spines or excessive highlighting/underlining, no ex-library books, no hardcovers without dust jackets, no LPs without sleeves, no water damage or mold.
- Advanced readers copies or uncorrected proofs
- Sheet music
- Single-issue comic books
- Outdated history or current affairs books
- We typically try to stock books you aren't necessarily going to find at every other book store, so we generally don't take best sellers or mass-market paperbacks in genres like westerns, romance, and mystery/thrillers.
- Presidential biographies
- Self-help, business, or diet books
- Magazines
- Textbooks or test-prep books
- Easy listening, traditional pop, and marching band records
- Most classical records
- Musicals
- 12" singles
- 78s (we are also pretty selective with 45s)
- Currently, we are not buying used YA/middle grade books due to lack of space in that section.
If you have questions, feel free to send an email to [email protected]. Please keep in mind though, we cannot buy anything without seeing it in person so that we can inspect the condition of the item.
- I'm looking for a book/record you don't have in stock. Can you get it for me?
If a book or record is still in print, we can probably order you a new copy (our used stock depends on what people sell to us. We can't order specific used books or records). Get in touch and we'd be happy to check if what you're looking for is in stock at one of our distributors. We also offer a bulk discount on orders of 5 or more copies of the same book, so contact us if we can supply your book club or classroom. Please keep in mind that special orders may take up to 2-3 weeks to arrive, depending on which publisher/label it comes from, due to minimum order requirements and shipping delays. If you need something sooner than that, please let us know, and we'll do our best to get your order as quickly as possible.
- Are you hiring?
Nope, sorry. We get this question a lot, and it's flattering that so many people think it'd be cool to work here, but this is a two-person operation, and it's unlikely we'll be expanding any time soon.
