Beauty Is in the Street: A Visual Record of the May '68 Paris Uprising

  • Small Friend Records & Books 105 North 17th Street Richmond, VA, 23219 United States (map)

For the first installment of Beauty Is in the Street, we'll be screening Jean-Luc Goddard's Tout Va Bien (1972).

From Vietnam to Detroit, 1968 was a year of global revolution.
Popular struggles for liberation reconstituted left politics along
anti-authoritarian, decolonial, feminist, and ecological lines. On
the 50th anniversary of 1968, we invite you to join us for an evening
of radical film and critical discussion as we reassess the legacy of

’68 in light of contemporary struggles. We present these films as
cinematic artifacts encapsulating the tensions and contractions
of this era – artistic, linguistic, aesthetic, cultural – as well as
devices for raising our political consciousness and rebuilding a
collective memory to better wage struggles for liberation today.
