We started this program in January 2022 because at many prisons, books will be rejected unless they are sent directly from a bookstore. The response, both from the community and from the incarcerated people who have received books, has been overwhelmingly positive. We are accepting donations to help cover the cost of books and shipping. We order books for the program through our regular distributors, which means we can get books at a wholesale discount and stretch donation dollars further. We don't make any profit from this- 100% of donations are used for book and shipping costs. We get about ten letters a week from prisoners requesting books, and most ask for 3-6 books at a time, so the costs add up quickly. On average, the cost to send one paperback book is $15.
